Speculative Encounters is a workshop led by Maicyra Leão and Magdalena Kallenberger, two members of the feminist art collective MATERNAL FANTASIES.

In this workshop we used performative exercises, collage techniques and creative writing to explore connections that have shaped our becoming. Who are our self-chosen “feminist ancestors”? Where would we like to meet them? What kind of questions would we ask? We will develop a Speculative Encounter with one of our chosen ‘ancestors’, which does not need to be a person from whom you are descended nor does this person have to be famous. Rather it can be any person that has influenced you into becoming who you are today.

* Every participant should bring along to the workshop a short text or quote written by their ancestor, a memory or an anecdote as well as a digital image or print out of the face of the “feminist ancestor”.
